Hera was the goddess of the marriage. She was the wife of Zeus and his sister at the same time. Her affair with Zeus started really early without the knowledge of their parents.

Besides her own children she raised  also a lot of other children, she punished disloyalty and took revenge on those who had an affair with her husband Zeus.

Especially in Argos she got very adored and for this reason she protected the city.
